In a tweet announcing the endorsement, Obama wrote, "Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something, but for something—to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor, and compassion to public service. They deserve your vote."

Dr. McBrine and President Obama both have roots in Chicago's South Side, though their common threads extend well beyond geography. "The president and I are committed to serving people through good government. That means crafting policies that protect public health, strengthen the health care system, restore equity and opportunity for all, and preserve our environment," said Dr. McBrine.
The presidential endorsement enhances an already-impressive roster of luminaries who have also supported the campaign: Gina McCarthy, former Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency; Dr. Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont, former chair of the Democratic National Committee, and presidential candidate; and Michael Dukakis, former governor of Massachusetts and presidential candidate.
